Beautiful! Hot! And very different from home.

This place is really gorgeous.  Our apartment is right on the ocean with a fantastic view.  It has really seemed like we traveled to a different planet back in time.  By our standards, the apartment is very basic, but by the standards here, it is like a palace.  I am just thankful that we have an apartment,even though we have cockroaches two+inches long and a gecko for roommates!  This first week has been full of many surprises and we have enjoyed the adventure.  We are working in the office and have enjoyed the fact that they have air conditioning there.  Our apartment seems very hot and humid, so going to the office is great.
There is one road down the center of this long narrow island and we were surprised at the traffic on the one road.  Everyone drives very slowly because the road is full of children, adults and pigs  meandering along.  The pedestrians have the right of way, so the cars slowly weave through them.  The people don't pay any attention to the cars even though there are a lot of them.  It takes about a half hour to drive to the post office to pick up the mail for all of the missionaries.  There is no local postal delivery here.  Some of the missionaries on the end of the island don't get mail for a month or more until they can get to the mission home.
