I was trying to find a way to describe Halloween here in the Marshall Islands, and thought of the story of “Horton and the Who”. Every Who in Whoville had to yell all together to be heard. The children converged in huge droves, everyone of them scream singing at the top of their lungs,in unison, to the tune of “London Bridge is Falling Down.” HAPPY, HAPPY, HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN, HAPPY, HAPPY HALLOWEEN, HALLUUUHWEEN. The very first door opening totally cleaned out the candy bucket! They came in HUGE bunches. They never did say “Trick or Treat” This little “Who” screaming went on for hours. Our Senior Family Home Evening group was gathered at Perkins Apartment that night. We were enjoying our soup night and scripture reading. There were times when we had to just stop reading the scriptures and laugh out loud because of the unearthly noise! The worst part was having to say that the candy was all gone! They didn't seem to have a problem with that they just joined back into the screaming singing and went on their merry way. I found out later that our apartment complex was THE PLACE to go to Trick or Treat. It's too bad I didn't get a video of that because it would have made a great UTUBE video.
