Nosie's Baptism

This has been the greatest weekend!!!  My Marshallese tutor was baptized last night. She surprised us, and we were thrilled when she asked for Elder Badger to do the baptism. We have worked with her for seven months now-she teaches me Marshallese and we teach her the Gospel.  When I needed her to read out loud in Marshallese, we used the Book Of Mormon.  When she asked questions, we used the scriptures to answer.  We first met Nosie when we had been here about two weeks.  I used a memorized passage from Joseph Smith's testimony of the First Vision, in a meeting for the spiritual thought.  The Elders working in the office were impressed with it, and asked the Seniors to join them for a teaching session with a new investigator.  It was Nosie Alik. I repeated the memorized account of Josephs words to her and I have been able to teach her each week since then, because I asked her to be my tutor. She has had several sets of Missionaries come and go, but when asked who she wanted, she chose us.  Norm was very happy to do the baptism and even performed it in Marshallese to Nosie's great surprise.  She was thrilled about it.  Even though she won't be in  our ward, we went to church with her today in Long Island.  I am so impressed at how ready she is and how hard she has studied.  He Book of Mormon is full of notes and cross references.  It took her a while, but she was very thorough and she will be a fabulous member.  I am going to give her a "Triple Combination" as a gift for her baptism.  They don't have the D&C translated into Marshallese yet, but she reads English very well, so that isn't a problem.   This is what a mission is all about and I am so thankful that we have been able to experience this wonderful blessing.
