This was taken at the Ajeltake Carnival last week. We were learning to weave baskets out of palm leaves. I see things in these baskets all of the time by the side of the road for sale. I was amazed at how fast they turn a palm leaf into a beautiful basket or dish for food. They sell coconuts and breadfruit and some scary looking snail looking things in them. I was asked to sing a solo at this carnival and I sang " Teach Me to Walk in the Light." Now they want me to come back and teach them how to lead the music and sing the Primary songs in English. Most of the time we sing in Marshallese here. My tutoring lessons are going well and I am amazed at how much I have learned. This last Sunday, I was thrilled to be able to actually understand a lot of what was being said. I have learned to read quite a bit, but it is another thing to listen to them rattle it off and understand what is being said.
