Making Handicraft

I learned how to make a Marshallese necklace today. With a few friends, I went into the handicraft shop back room and sat on the cement floor for a lesson.  I was delighted to learn to wrap the coconut strands around my big toe and weave with both hands.  The whole process was a delight to me and it took a couple of hours, but I ended up with my own necklace!  I’ve been fascinated by the shell jewelry here and have purchased a lot of it, but this was great because I made it myself.  One of the most fun things for me was conversing in Marshallese; these Marshallese ladies didn’t speak any English.
