Computers and the internet for Marshallese Wards

Elder Badger has been working for many months to prepare the internet connection, computers, printers, software, etc for each of the seven wards here in Majuro.  The wards right now are not connected to the internet, so they have no way to enter church data, make ward lists, order materials, etc.  Just getting internet into each building has been a challenge.

The big training from New Zealand is going on this weekend when all of the bishoprics come in to learn how to use their new computers and be trained on the MLS Member Leader Services program.  It is going to be interesting because most of them speak Marshallese with limited English and the training is an English program.  Each ward is supposed to go “live” on this Sunday.  We know that this is going to be a work in progress!

The Bishoprics all met in the Stake High Council room with their new computers all set up. Elder Badger has them all loaded with the programs and software.  The training came from an online program projected onto a screen and conducted by two New Zealand experts.  The only problem was that the training was done in English and they speak Marshallese. Elder Badger was a little bit disappointed that there was not any translation going on in the meeting.  He said that there will have to be an ongoing training, but that this is a start.  Tomorrow on Sunday, everyone is supposed to go live in each ward.  It will be interesting.  He will be doing some ward hopping tomorrow and probably for quite a while.  It is a wonderful experience to be part of the pioneer efforts in the church here.  History is being made on the Marshall Islands with this new addition.
